Lampropeltis alterna

Range: Chihuahuan desert regions of northeastern Mexico & Big Bend Texas

Typical adult size: 3 to 3 1/2 feet

Our alterna breeding groups consist of  "choice" locality matched specimens from both eastern and western populations. The extreme variety of color and pattern mutations of this species is truly amazing, with no two being exactly alike. The fascination with these variations and the ability to explore them further through captive breeding makes this snake one of the most rewarding species to raise and breed.

Christmas Mountains

From Highway 118 as it winds through the Christmas mountains north of Big Bend National Park. One of our favorite localities, and one of the most sought after due to it's rarity of specimens and tendency to produce beautiful and unusual patterns.  Breeding stock originates from Todd Smith and Don Shores.  2010 xmas mt availability

Black Gap

One of the most variable locales producing some truly amazing alterna. Very wild and ornate patterns and colors, many very hard to describe. Our breeding stock originates from Dan Johnson & David Doherty.  2010 gap availability

Route # 277

Our breeding stock originates from Adam Sweetman's "blue" female pictured to the right. She was produced by the female on the top of the page which Adam collected. I have been working with this line for several years attempting to enhance the blue coloration.  Available 2012

Loma Alta

We have one pair from this locale. Great examples of clean bright colored light blairs phase. Breeding stock originates from Bill Gillingham.  2010 Loma Alta availability

West Langtry

We have one pair from this locale. Another great example of light blairs phase. Breeding stock originates from Mike Russo.  Available 2012
